Question 1 (Configuration & Setup). Universal Containers has two sales teams that each need different Stage values on Opportunities. What should the administrator configure?

  • A. Two opportunity record types with separate sales processes
  • B. Two price books with separate opportunity stages
  • C. A validation rule that restricts stages by team
  • D. A single sales process with a new Stage picklist field

Correct answer: A. Sales processes control the available Stage values, and record types control which sales process each team sees. Price books control products and pricing, not stages. Validation rules restrict data entry but don't change which values are visible. Exam questions often test whether you know record types drive process assignment — that's the pattern here.

Question 2 (Configuration & Setup — Security). Organization-wide defaults for Accounts are set to Private. A sales manager needs to see all opportunities owned by their direct reports. What is the best approach?

  • A. Set the Account sharing rule to Public Read/Write
  • B. Give the manager the Modify All Data permission
  • C. Place the manager in the role hierarchy above their reports
  • D. Create a sharing rule based on the manager's profile

Correct answer: C. The role hierarchy grants record visibility up the chain automatically — managers see their subordinates' records without weakening the org-wide security model. Changing OWD or handing out Modify All Data are overkill the exam will try to tempt you with; profile-based sharing rules are valid but less direct than the built-in hierarchy behavior being tested.

Question 3 (Object Manager). An administrator needs a field on the Account that shows the total value of all related Opportunities. Which relationship supports this?

  • A. Lookup relationship with a roll-up summary field
  • B. Master-detail relationship with a roll-up summary field
  • C. Lookup relationship with a formula field using a subquery
  • D. External lookup relationship with an indirect roll-up

Correct answer: B. Roll-up summary fields only work on master-detail relationships — a classic exam trap. The lookup option fails because roll-ups can't be built on lookups (a common misconception). Formulas can't aggregate across child records in this way, and external objects have their own rules. If a question mentions roll-up summaries, think master-detail first.

Question 4 (Automation). Every night at 11 PM, all open Cases older than 30 days should have their Status set to "Escalated". What should the administrator build?

  • A. A record-triggered flow that fires on Case update
  • B. A scheduled flow that runs nightly and updates matching Cases
  • C. A validation rule on Case that checks the age
  • D. An approval process on Case with time-based actions

Correct answer: B. Time-based, batch updates are the textbook use case for a scheduled flow. Record-triggered flows react to individual record changes, not to a clock. Validation rules prevent bad data entry — they can't update records. Time-based approval actions exist but are built for approvals, not nightly sweeps. On the exam, "every night / every Monday" = scheduled flow.

Question 5 (Agentforce). An administrator wants support agents to resolve cases faster using an AI agent that can look up order status and draft case summaries. Where is this agent built and configured?

  • A. Agent Builder
  • B. Flow Builder with a screen flow
  • C. The Service Console macro builder
  • D. Einstein Discovery story setup

Correct answer: A. Agent Builder is Salesforce's tool for creating AI agents with topics, actions, and instructions — exactly what the scenario describes. Flows automate processes but aren't conversational agents. Macros speed up clicks, not AI reasoning. Einstein Discovery builds predictive models, not agents. Agentforce is new on the blueprint (8%), so expect at least a few questions on it.

Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator I (2026) FAQ

How hard is the ADM-201 exam?
It's a scenario-based exam, not a vocabulary test. Most questions describe a business situation and ask what you should configure. Candidates who only memorize definitions struggle; candidates who practice applying concepts — especially security/sharing and automation scenarios — pass at much higher rates. The 65% passing bar is achievable with focused practice across the weighted domains.

How many questions are on the ADM-201 exam?
60 scored questions, plus up to 5 unscored questions Salesforce uses to calibrate future exams (they don't affect your score). You get 105 minutes total.

What is the passing score for ADM-201?
65% — you need at least 39 of the 60 scored questions correct.

How long should I study for ADM-201?
It depends on experience. If you already work as a Salesforce admin, 4–8 weeks of focused study is typical. If Salesforce is new to you, plan 3–4 months and get hands-on time in a free Developer org alongside practice tests. The best readiness signal: you can explain concepts and solve scenario questions without guessing — not just that you've read the material.

Do I need experience before taking ADM-201?
Salesforce lists no formal prerequisite, but the exam is heavily scenario-based — questions assume you can reason like an admin. Hands-on practice in a Developer org plus adaptive practice tests is the combination most successful candidates use.
